I occasionally post over on the Dark Side (the CW Forum) and one of the threads is a World Tour Predictions League, with only a few races to go I am, as you'd expect , manfully bringing up the rear but can't bring myself to vote for Lizzie Armistead/Deignan or anyone on Team Sky. To miss three blood tests as World Champion in an Olympic Year, beggars belief, and with widespread Tramadol abuse, a token 'no needles policy' and a ridiculous number of 'asthmatics on both Team Sky and Team GB, we have to question whether our anti-doping system is and less reptehsible than the Russians and the strangely silent Spanish. Hushed up Operation Puerto rather conveniently. Next week, I turn my attention, and not before time on the devil's own dangly bits...
The trouble with rules is that they encourage the less principled to find ways around them. I sometimes think there should be only one: your participation must leave the sport in a better state. If anyone is accused of trying to bend that rule a jury should give a decision within a couple of hours, aided by whatever video/witnesses are available. There would be only one penalty - a lifetime ban. No appeals would be allowed, no discussions entered into.
Just watch 'em behave under my system.
