I've got a fair selection of bikes - road, mtb, hybrid and tandem and whatever I ride I always try and acknowledge other riders, be it a hello or a raise of a right hand or nod if I'm on the rivet.

It amazes me the number of riders that don't extend the courtesy.

Do you give the nod ?

Yes always it's part of the enjoyment. I also ride along we strangers quite happily passing the miles and discussing things like ' how many bikes do you have!'

I always nod, a bit of camaraderie can lift your spirits even when you're in the lowest depths of the knock

Absolutely. From my own experience of cycling both in the UK and on the Continent the huge majority of cyclists will give a nod, a wave, a friendly greeting or, on occasions, all three. I was in Mallorca last week and we'd stopped on a quiet country road to deal with a puncture, when a large group of Spanish flew past shouting "Bon Dia!" and "Hola!" - a nice little moment and their exuberant and friendly greetings was an expression of our shared passion for the sport.

I've noticed that most roadies give the nod, but with MTB'ers it's a bit hit and miss (even when I'm on an MTB too).

Interestingly I find it the other way round!

Been riding so many years that cycling to me is just normal activity. It's the background radiation of my life ;-) I sometimes nod, wave or whatever, but not always. I don't acknowledge what I'm doing as in any way meriting others waving at me. Especially when there's so many of us out on the roads/lanes these days.

One rule I never break though, I always stop to help if someone looks like they need it (puncture etc).

that's because they know the difference between you're and your.

I find that roadies are the worst.

A generalisation, maybe, but so many of them seem to think that they're going way too fast to acknowledge a mere female, particularly if I'm riding my hybrid. I know though that last summer I cycled 100 miles a day for 10 consecutive days (admittedly nothing record breaking) wheresas they're only doing 50 or so miles and then will go back to sitting at a desk the next day. 'Never judge a book by the bike it rides', or something like that! :)

When I ride my hybrid to work I always feel that I've got my stealth shield on with regards to other cyclists (never mind some motorists).

I think it's because I'm not wearing sports related clothing and am using my bike as a mode of transport rather than living the dream.

It's usually overweight mamils that are the worse steaming past me on their Colnago's or other piece of expensive bike that they are not using to it's full potential. I find this ironic as they are the same suspects that I ride past on our local climbs on my twenty year old Cinelli and usually give the nod too (and invariably get a response).

'Like'

Yes I always nod, it can be challenging doging the traffic as a cyclist sometimes so I always like to adknowledge a fellow cyclist :)

Just got back into cycling after about 15 years and we always nodded then so it was nice to see it still happening.

Of course we should nod and say alright....its part of the cyclist code
