5. Jenson Button, Racing Driver – Ex world champion and mothers favourite, loves his bikes. Time trialling is Jensons thing, when he’s not in the car he’s in a Triathlon. Best time over full Olympic distance 2hrs 14mins 14secs

4. Professor Denise Morrey,  Head of Engineering at Oxford Brookes -Her decision to nominate petrol heads top cheerleader, Jeremy Clarkson, for an honorary degree was not universally popular. Morrey sprang to his defence, because he spoke up robustly for engineering. "Yes, Jeremy Clarkson has a controversial view or two, but when he says that things that make life pleasant, comfortable, safe and exciting are down to engineering, I'm pleased his is a view that gets published." She herself is a fan of motor sport, though the bicycle is her preferred mode of transport.

3. Jeremy Clarkson, Journalist and Broadcaster – He’s a secret cyclist! No, he is..... Cycling in Copenhagen, says Clarkson is "fan-bleeding-tastic. And best of all: there are no bloody cars cluttering the place up. Almost everyone goes almost everywhere on a bicycle."

2. Fernando Alonso, Racing Driver – The two time world champion and arguably the best driver on the track today. When he's got some spare time, on the straights, he’s thinking ahead to creating his own outfit – a cycling team that he hopes will one day win the Tour de France. He says - "It's a project for me – a kind of dream I have because I love cycling. Creating a top team and being in a position to win the Tour de France will give me a nice feeling.”

1.Nigel Mansel,l the 1992 F1 World Champion and 1993 IndyCar champion - Nigel is currently in front of Fernando! After a glittering motor racing career  himself, he is now the proud owner of a professional cycling team, Team UK Youth. The team includes his son Greg and other seasoned professionals, it also supports the UK Youth charity. So Nigel Mansell is my #1 cycling petrol head.

I wonder if Alonso would consider all the others for his pro-cycling team...I'd love to see a Clarkson/Flint breakaway.
