Wiggins reacts angriliy to accusations of doping

Tour de France leader Bradley Wiggins has launched a strong verbal attack against those who accuse him of doping.

Wiggins produced another strong ride on Sunday's Stage 8, responding to attacks by Cadel Evans and Vincenzo Nibali to keep the yellow jersey going into Monday's time trial.

Wiggins' vastly improved form has led some to speculate - with no evidence - about doping, and he even released his own blood profile after finishing fourth at the 2009 Tour to prove he was not taking performance-enhancing drugs or blood doping.

Asked in the post-stage press conference on Sunday evening how he responded to accusations of doping, Wiggins said: "I cannot be doing with people like that. It justifies their own bone-idleness because they can't ever imagine applying themselves to do anything in their lives.

"It's easy for them to sit under a pseudonym on Twitter and write that sort of s***, rather than get off their a***s in their own lives and apply themselves and work hard at something and achieve something. And that's ultimately it."

Wiggins' team-mate Chris Froome took up the theme on Twitter, writing: "Critics need to wake up and realise that cycling has evolved. Dedication and sacrifice = results. End of story!"

Christian VandeVelde, a former team-mate of Wiggins now riding at Garmin-Sharp, wrote: "Just heard @bradwiggins quote from the press conference today. Please do yourself the favor and read it. It is so, spot on. Thank you Wiggo."

Garmin-Sharp directeur sportif Jonathan Vaughters Tweeted simply: "Respect @bradwiggins."

He's great, cmon wiggo.
Just hope the press don't gang up on him if they don't like what he's saying.
