Well, it wasn't cold as you toughies up north know cold. I know this because I lived amongst you for some years and was often amazed to see my neighbour, a farmer and shepherd, working in sub-zeroes in his shirtsleeves.
But for us southern softies it was cold enough; my breath was plainly visible and my bare legs went several unusual colours at the same time. Any colder and I would have crawled back under the duvet.
