I know, I know Dave, there are some marvellous tyres out there for the avoidance of the penetration of the pointy objects. And, when I was a working man with a start time, I was invariably shod with the Vittoria Randonneur, which is easily the densest, heaviest and slowest tyre this side of a tank track.
But, now I am free of such suffocating deadlines, I am instead a slave to fast rolling, comfortable rubber. The time spent fixing the odd flat is easily regained in rapid progress around the lanes. I've managed to average one a year until 2017, when my score shot up to three, but I'm praying for good luck to see me through this year with a lower count of two. My daily ride is Michelin Pro4 Endurance, which have been discontinued, but they are amazing considering they weigh about a third of your Marathons. I wouldn't swap, but then, unlike you, I'm not riding anywhere important.
